Introduction
Lakshadweep is a group of 36 Islands located in the Arabian Sea, The principal Island Kavaratti is the Capital Town of Lakshadweep. Among 36 Islands in Lakshadweep Andrott Island is the Largest one in terms of Geography with an area of 4.90 sq km and a width of 1.43 Km and Bitra Island is the Smallest Island in Lakshadweep has a land area of 0.105 sq km and width of 0.28 km. The Lakshadweep Islands were formed on 1st November 1956 with the name of Laccadive Islands. In 1973 the Name was changed to Lakshadweep
In the Languages of Malayalam and Sanskrit the Word "Lakshadweep" means a hundred thousand islands
Lakshadweep is one of the Union Territory of India which is ruled by the President of India with an Administrator. Lakshadweep is the smallest Union Territory of India having Islands an area of 32 sq Km. Lakshadweep is at a distance of 360 km to 400 km from Kochi (Kerala). All the Islands in Lakshadweep is at 200 km to 400 km away from the coastal line of Kochi

There is a famous Bird Sanctuary in Lakshadweep which is located in the Pitti Islet. The name Pitti comes from Tamil as Pakshipitti.
