The speed of a smartphone is primarily determined by the type of processor it utilizes. In India, six main processors are commonly used: Apple Bionic, Snapdragon, MediaTek, Exynos, Google Tensor, and Unisoc.

1. Apple Bionic Processor

The Apple Bionic processor is exclusive to Apple products, particularly iPhones. This processor delivers exceptional performance and enhances the gaming experience on smartphones, as many games are optimized specifically for it.

2. Qualcomm's Snapdragon

The remaining processors are designed for the Android platform. Qualcomm Snapdragon processors are widely renowned for their high performance, power efficiency, and competitive gaming capabilities. Game developers tend to optimize their games for Snapdragon processors more quickly than for other brands. Qualcomm offers four categories of processors:

  1. The Snapdragon 8 series for flagship smartphones
  2. The Snapdragon 7 series for upper mid-range devices
  3. The Snapdragon 6 series for mid-range devices
  4. The Snapdragon 4 series is for budget smartphones.

3. MediaTek Processor

MediaTek is another leading smartphone processor brand, particularly popular in the Asian market. They produce the Dimensity series of processors, which are specifically designed for 5G connectivity and gaming performance. However, game optimization for MediaTek processors tends to be delayed. MediaTek also offers the Helio series of processors, which are more affordable and suitable for low-end and mid-range devices.

Within the Dimensity series, MediaTek provides different sub-series of processors, including:

  1. the Dimensity 9000 series for premium devices
  2. the Dimensity 8000 series for high-end devices
  3. the Dimensity 7000 series for mid-range devices,
  4. the Dimensity 6000 series for entry-level devices.

4. Samsung Processors

Samsung, on the other hand, primarily powers its own Galaxy devices and some other Android devices with its Exynos series of processors. These processors are known for their versatility and innovation. However, they do have some drawbacks, such as thermal throttling and a lack of performance compared to Qualcomm and MediaTek in the flagship category.

Nevertheless, Exynos processors are suitable for general purposes and some casual gaming.

5. Google Processors

Google is the newest smartphone processor brand that powers its own Pixel devices. It produces the Tensor series of processors, which are known for their AI and security features, as well as their integration with Google services. These processors are produced by Samsung and also face the same issues as Exynos processors, we can also say these are rebranded versions of Exynos with little twinks for them according to Google.

6. Unisoc Processor

The Unisoc processor is primarily designed for low-end smartphones, making them more affordable and targeting the Asian market. These processors are suitable for casual usage only.

Author's Opinion: In my opinion, it is advisable to opt for a superior processor that can provide a lag-free experience for at least three years. Entry-level processors tend to make smartphones sluggish and choppy. If you find yourself uncertain between two specific processors, a quick Google search (e.g., Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G vs MediaTek Dimensity 7200) will lead you to a website called NanoReview.

This platform offers comprehensive comparisons and detailed information about these processors, enabling you to make a well-informed decision.
